Beyond the Notes: Our New Research on How Music Education Shapes Young Adults

For years, we’ve heard that music training can be good for you, but what’s the evidence? We are thrilled to share our new working paper, Orchestrating Success: Music Proficiency, Emotional Intelligence and Mental Health in Young Adulthood.”

Our research, the first from the TEMPO project, investigates the causal link between musical training in adolescence and the development of socio-emotional skills and mental health later in life. We found compelling evidence that consistent music education can have a profound, lasting impact, helping young adults build social skills and improve their emotional well-being.

The findings are already generating significant interest. Editors at IZA World of Labor asked us to write a non-technical summary, which you can read here: Orchestrating success: The power of universal music education.”
